Athletics Federation
of Nigeria yesterday released a list of 65 athletes for the 2015 All Africa
Games billed for the Republic of Congo September 4-19. Also 24 athletes were selected for the 15th World Championships billed for August
22-30 in Beijing, China.
The athletes were selected after the trials conducted in
Warri, Delta State last weekend. And despite below standard performance by
majority of the athletes at the All Nigeria Championships, officials are
hopeful that the country will have a good outing at the two events.
“We expect a good outing most especially at the World
Championships. The World Anti Doping Agency has made a revelation of wide scale
doping in world athletes. So we expect a level playing field as many of those
who are using drugs will not be able to use them.
“We expect a good outing unlike last time in Moscow when it
a one horse race for Blessing Okagbare,” said Professor Ken Anugweje who is the
doping and medical director of the AFN.

The athletes were selected after the trials conducted in Warri, Delta State last weekend. And despite below standard performance by majority of the athletes at the All Nigeria Championships, officials are hopeful that the country will have a good outing at the two events.
“We expect a good outing most especially at the World Championships. The World Anti Doping Agency has made a revelation of wide scale doping in world athletes. So we expect a level playing field as many of those who are using drugs will not be able to use them.
“We expect a good outing unlike last time in Moscow when it a one horse race for Blessing Okagbare,” said Professor Ken Anugweje who is the doping and medical director of the AFN.
The athletes are already in camp at the Port Harcourt High
Performance Centre brushing up for world championships and the All
Africa Games where Nigeria is hoping to reclaim its dominance of
African, after it was edged to the third place at the last African
Championships in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The delegation for the World Championships, will leave on August 17, while those for the Africa Games will remain in camp till August 30 when the entire Nigerian delegation is expected to storm Brazzaville for the All African Games.
