Lagos – Adura Olalehin, a national boxing coach has
expressed optimism that the country will clinch a minimum of four gold medals
in boxing at the forthcoming All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
Olalehin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that
the 26 boxers in camp at the moment were training hard to do the nation proud.
He added that the enabling environment provided for the
boxers had impacted positively on their preparation for the fiesta.
He said: “We are still in camp now preparing for the All
Africa Games; the boxing camp is so beautiful now; we don’t need to come from a
hotel to train.
“So it makes everything easy for us because of the hostel;
for me, so far so good, we are ready for the All Africa Games and we are not
going to come back with less than four gold (medals).
“And the coaches, we have all it takes; all the coaches are
ready.“
The coach, however, said that out of the 26 boxers in camp,
13 would be selected to represent the country.
He said that the 13 boxers would be selected based on merit
in order to ensure the best representation for the country.
NAN reports that Nigeria is expected to feature in 21 events
at the fiesta, which is scheduled to hold between Sept. 4 and Sept. 19. (NAN)
